Web access problems in hotel room

Reported by: rgm@… Owned by: Clemens Schrimpe
Priority: major Milestone: ietf-100
Component: hotel Keywords:
Cc: My Current Location: Swissotel rm 872
My MAC Address: d0:df:9a:4a:99:17 My OS: Fedora 24

Description

On SSID IETF-Hotel. I did not suspend my system when last on the meeting room network, but took the elevator to my room 872.

This has happened a couple other times. Web access times out.

"The server at www.cnn.com is taking too long to respond."

But other sites like spectrum.ieee.org work fine. And I got to this ticket site.

My IP address is:

inet 31.133.146.106/20 brd 31.133.159.255 scope global dynamic wlp4s0

valid_lft 931sec preferred_lft 931sec

inet6 2001:67c:1232:144:b240:1e3c:a4e8:451b/64 scope global noprefixroute dynamic

I will probably have to go down to the terminal room...

When moving from the meeting room network to "ietf-hotel" you change layer-3 networks → change in IP addresses, so certain services on the interwebs may not be amused by that.

However: Can you supply the results of a simple speed-test (i.e., through speedtest.net; please pick a "local" server in Singapore) to provide some base data?

Thanks.

I will see what happens when I go to my lunch in my room. I will note
that this is a 'sometimes' problem. Sometimes I go to my room and
everything works. Other times only some things work.

There's no limit to what can be accomplished if it doesn't matter who
gets the credit

I am very aware I changed IP addresses.

I am back in my room and my interface information is the same as last night.

I can get to sites like enn.com (that timed out last night)
spectrum.ieee.org, z9m9z.htt-consult.com (my mail server) and
speedtest.net. I cannot get to cnn.com; it times out.

speedtest.net thinks we are in the US and won't let me select a non-US
test node.

I will be here for a little while longer.
