ietf-hotel not working on 18th floor

Description

Hiya,

Can I tell you that I hate writing tickets? I never feel like I’ve
got the info you need.

It seems that ietf-hotel SSID isn’t working on the 18th floor. I’m
in 1828.

By “isn’t working”, I mean that I earlier today I would get
connected, get an IP address, and then nothing would route. Now, there
is radio, I get connected but self-assigned address. Oh, wait! Just
got connected.

So, maybe it’s flaky. Or, maybe there’s a down AP and I’m
periodically getting just enough signal from the next? And, the
Fairmont SSID gets me connected to usable network.

Leslie.

Let me add: I have seen this behavior both on my Mac OS X laptop and my
iOS devices.

Hi Leslie -

Yes, we've been having issues on the hotel side. Cleared early but may be back -
can you add your room number (or ap info if you done't want to expose your room #)

Leslie,

Seems the underlying GPON system the hotel uses to deliver packets to the APs on the guest room floors took our mix of public v4 and v6 as a "Storm" and helpfully blocked all forwarding on the VLAN. We've since been able to up the "Storm" threshold and switch it to warning rather than blocking when that threshold is passed. Hopefully that translates into working net for you. Please do check and get back to us!

... not to mention those helpful devices who scrub through the entire /20 over and over in hopes to find some "friends" they could ask to play with them ...

Hiya,

Sorry for the delayed follow up — it was a while before I was back at
my room to try it!

Seems to be working well now, thanks.

Leslie.
