DHCP problems on hotel wifi

Description

Hi. The Fairmont's wifi and ietf-hotel nets was misbehaving last night/this morning. They'd give me an IPv6 address. But my devices couldn't get an answer from the DHCP server => no IPv4 => laptop and phone adopted an ad-hoc address => nothing works. I went downstairs, joined the main IETF network and got a real IPv4 address. My laptop kept that address when I went to my room and joined the ietf-hotel SSID.

As you may be aware from Sean’s email to the 106all mailing list, we have had a number of issues with the hotel network. The changes have been implemented, and we believe the network is now stable (without IPv6 service). So, we are going to close this ticket at this point. If you have additional issues you encounter, please feel free to reopen this ticket or create a new one (if the issues is sufficiently different). Thanks!

Below is part of the email sent to the mailing list...
As you know we have been having issues with the ietf-hotel network in the guest rooms. We are currently making changes to resolve the issues, unfortunately, we will not be able to offer IPv6 on the ietf-hotel network this time.

For those interested in details: Since our last visit, the hotel has upgraded the guestroom network infrastructure and moved both hotels to a GPON based network. This network (and the wireless) are not really able to deal with the amount of broadcast and multicast traffic that we generate - this means that “important” things like ARP, DHCP, IPv6 Was, etc got starved, and so people were unable to join / get an IP.

Yeah. It arrived just after I filed the ticket. :-( Please close this ticket since you already knew about the problem and it's been overtaken by events. Thanks.
