#856 closed request (fixed)

Ethernet port worse than wifi

Description

Hi,

I’m in my room (Tapa tower, 12th floor), and I can connect to both the IETF-hotel wifi and the ethernet port (confirmed, as I’m getting IETF search domains advertised by DHCP).

FWIW - connectivity on wifi is MUCH better than ethernet (which is counterintuitive). Any visibility into why that might be, or should I take it up with the hotel?

Thanks,

Mark,

If you're seeing bad throughput on the wired port, it's likely simply a bad/long DSL run. Could you try plugging into the 1st port and try to use the Hilton network and see if the performance is similarly bad? If so, please contact the Hilton support and complain about your HILTON service (as they have no understanding of the IETF service). If it's working great on the Hilton wired and badly on the IETF side, then we'll be very glad to debug.

Mark,

Have you had a chance to test? Is there anything further you'd like from the IETF NOC?
