#869 closed defect (fixed)

Ietf-hotel disappearing every 20 minutes

Description

Hi NOC folk-

I'm in the Tapa tower on the 27th floor and am seeing the ietf-hotel SSID
dropping out for about 5 minutes every 20 minutes. If I had to guess I'd
say the AP was rebooting. Looks like the hhonors and attwifi SSIDs might
also be failing at the same time.

The next time you get connected, would you send us the BSSID of the WAP you are connected to?

Speaking to Aaron now via the NOC chat. He's going to collect additional information and let us know the BSSID tonight.

Aaron,

Is this resolved or can we help further? The last update we had was that you were going to let us know the BSSID last night.

Thanks!

Looks like it may be solved. I tried the wireless for about 30 min last
night and while the bandwidth was not great, I assume that was due to
load. I didn't see the SSID disappearing. I also tried the wired net and
it worked quite well. Go ahead and close the ticket and I'll reopen it if
the problem reappears.

Aaron,

Thanks! We know the hotel wireless is weak, which is why we've been encouraging folks to use the wired. Let us know if you have further issues. For now though, I'm closing this ticket.

Now seeing some very odd behavior. The ietf-hotel, hhonors, and attwifi
SSIDs are popping in and out every 30-60 seconds. The wired ethernet
alternates between 'cable unplugged' and assigned address about the same
frequency. The ietf-hotel AP I see is 00:c0:23:bc:29:a2.

Aaron,

That's almost definitely an issue with the DSL/AP unit in your room. Please call the hotel support (there's a card in your room) and tell them the issue you're having with "hhonors" or the hotel wired. PLEASE don't mention ietf-hotel or the "second wired port", as it will just confuse them. If this doesn't resolve it for you, let me know your room number and I'll see if I can escalate it with AT&T.

Aaron,

Any updates on this? Are you still experiencing problems after you contacted the hotel support?

Thanks!

Aaron,

As we've not heard from you in over a day, and we're in the process of shutting down the network, I'm going to close out this ticket. Let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.
