Description

Hello,

I'm having a trouble connecting to any ietf network from my laptop. The
ietf-hotel works only in my hotel room, not around the meeting rooms.
Also everything works fine with the same configuration on my phone.

I have Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6200 (rev 35) wifi module
in my laptop. I remember some poeple with this module (including me) had
the same problem on the Hawaii meeting:

http://www.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/91attendees/current/msg00211.html

Unfortunately, connecting to the 2.4 only network doesn't fix it for me
this time. I will authenticate, usually get both IPv4 and IPv6
configuration, but pinging the default gateway times out.

Regards,

Jan

If you are running Windows, upgrade your Intel Centrino driver to the latest version, and that should fix the problem. If on Linux, come by the NOC, and we can lend you a USB dongle that will work.

I'm running Linux. But I managed to workaround the problem by disabling
the 802.11n.

% cat /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi-disable-11n.conf
options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1

Thank you!

Jan

Please stop by the helpdesk in the terminal room (Brasserie).

You have discovered one of two known solutions for machines running Linux, disabling 802.11n. The other is to borrow a USB wireless dongle from the NOC (Fountain Room). If you have further questions, please come visit us at the Help Desk in Brasserie on the Lobby Level next to the hotel registration counters.
