Description
Hello dear NOC team, I seem to have a very bad connection on my Wifi access point in my room. *My room number at the Hilton is 6098 (6th floor). * I have a very weak signal, but even when connected to the Wifi (ietf-hotel), I get a huge variation in packet losses up to >90% and timeouts and the Internet is practically unusable in the room. (Sometimes, it works for a short while, before things degrade again...) Below a quick dump of iwconfig for the Access point info. (I use Linux, but the same situation is for my windows computer and my smartphones.) IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"ietf-hotel" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: 24:C9:A1:6D:A6:C8 Bit Rate=130 Mb/s Tx-Power=22 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Power Management:of Link Quality=33/70 Signal level=-77 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:60 Invalid misc:1453 Missed beacon:0 There seems to be a second access point with slightly better connection in this area: wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"ietf-hotel" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.442 GHz Access Point: 24:C9:A1:6D:7E:A8 Bit Rate=39 Mb/s Tx-Power=22 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Power Management:off Link Quality=41/70 Signal level=-69 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:393 Invalid misc:56767 Missed beacon:0 Please advise or help to fix. As at the moment, due to this problem I basically have no working Internet access in the room. Thanks, Tobias

Tobias,
We're working with the Hotel's contractor on these issues, so if you had a time they could rendezvous with you to test from your room, it would be great. In addition, did you try the wired connection in your room? It should be hot and give you ~100Mbps.

Hi Jim, thanks. Will come to the NOC in 5 mins and we can try. There is an Ethernet socket, but no cable. Also one of my computers actually does not have Ethernet anymore, so I would need a Ethernet-to-USB. Anyway, see you in 5. Tobias,
As you can see, we are still working with the Hotel IT. They have offered to deploy a temporary AP in your room area, I'm not sure if that would take over your wired connection, or they would place it somewhere else near your room. We will follow up further with them today, and see what their solution entails.

Sure. Thank you very much and sorry for the trouble. Please don't worry too much. Even without wireless in the room, I shall be fine. A bit inconvenient because one of my computers doesn't have an Ethernet port anymore, but I can always go to the meeting rooms area and get fabuluous wifi access there. So please consider me only a low priority issue.
